Suffolk optician nominated for prestigious national award

A Suffolk optician has joined big city rivals from across the UK to be named as a finalist at the industry’s premier awards event.

Observatory the Opticians, an independent practice based at the High Street, Southwold has been nominated for the Optician Award’s Independent Practice of the Year.

The Optician Awards is the premier event in the optical calendar, showcasing excellence across every aspect of UK optics.

Jacqui Sayer, Practice Manager at Observatory the Opticians, said: “We are absolutely thrilled and very proud to have been named as a finalist for the UK’s Independent Practice of the Year; even to be nominated for this award is a wonderful achievement for a small country practice. To be nominated alongside the big city practices is testament to our professional approach, skilled staff and focus on customer care.

“We’ve put a lot of effort into our shop in the past year, renovating the interiors and expanding the frame range. To be recognised as one of the best opticians in the country is a wonderful feeling.”

The Independent Practice of the Year category recognises outstanding achievement in providing an independent service to customers, while accrediting the practice’s dedication to the improvement of its offering. A key consideration for the judges was the level of customer satisfaction and individualised eye care provided to patients. The panel also considered the quality and diversity of the optical products offered.

The company’s Beccles practice won the same award in 2014 and the Southwold branch is now hoping for a repeat result on finals night.

“If we could win this category twice in three years it would be an absolutely outstanding performance and one we would all be rightfully proud of,” said Miss Sayer.

The company’s flagship practice in Muswell Hill, north London, has been nominated for the Fashion Practice of the Year, an accolade it won in 2010.

The final ceremony will take place at the Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham on Saturday, April 9.
