Is your website helping or hindering your company?

Web traffic has vastly increased in recent years and a good website is vital to any business. Whether you are a one man band or a multi-national you are all trying to gain attention and win business.

Many websites don’t perform as well as they should. In actual fact it is not uncommon to find badly designed and under performing websites. If a website isn’t as good as it should be, there is a real risk it could be doing more harm than good to your company.

There are many factors that can hold your website back from being successful, such as:

  • Speed of your website. Does it load quickly enough, you only have on average 10 seconds to capture the visitors interest so speed and design of the site are all important.
  • Is the content easy to read?
  • Is the site easy to navigate?
  • Are there errors in your site or missing pages. These are factors that can affect your rankings on search engines, marking it more difficult for people to find you
  • Mobile friendly. Having your site mobile friendly or mobile responsive is more important than ever. Over 56% of website views are now on mobile phones and tablets and this is constantly increasing.

Content of the site is also extremely important. Key aspects to consider include:

  • Does the content clearly present the key selling points and messages
  • Does the content include a clear call to action and incentive to engagae
  • Copy that looks great on a desktop might be unreadable on a mobile device. Visitors won’t stay on your site if they have to pinch and zoom or squint at illegible type, or worse yet if it runs flash or anything that requires add-ons to display in a browser.
